In 1973, The Pancake Bakery opened its doors in a historical landmark: a former 17th-century VOC warehouse nestled on Prinsengracht 191. The building, aptly named “Hoop” (Hope), is steeped in history, being one of three structures once owned by the powerful Dutch East India Company (VOC). These warehouses, “Geloof” (Faith), “Hoop,” and “Liefde” (Love), stand as testaments to the Dutch Golden Age, a time when Calvinism thrived and business and faith were closely intertwined.
Located along the picturesque Prinsengracht (Prince’s Canal), named after the Prince of Orange, the buildings are an integral part of Amsterdam’s renowned Canal District. The Pancake Bakery has transformed this historic space into a welcoming haven where generations of patrons have gathered to enjoy a cozy and delightful dining experience.
“See you at The Pancake Bakery for the tastiest pancakes in Amsterdam!”
