In Delft is the former home of the artist Paul Tetar van Elven (1823 – 1896), in which the museum of the same name is located. In the center of Delft on the Koornmarkt is the home of Paul Tetar van Elven (1823 – 1896).

He was an artist, copyist, teacher at the Polytechnic School Delft (now TU Delft) and passionate collector of porcelain and pottery. Until 1892 he lived in this originally sixteenth-century canal house. He bequeathed the house and its contents to the city of Delft to turn it into a museum. In 1927 the time had come: the gem on the canal became a museum.
